If you have and important, familiar or national work of art, it must be placed away from sunlight or any other artificial source of light, since the colors in paintings like watercolor tend to fade away and the canvas may crack and loosen.

Paper work tends to turn yellow and stiff.  The same thing happens to textiles on sun or light exposure which will ultimately get destroyed.
