About Department for the Protection of Cultural Heritage
The Department for the Protection of Cultural Heritage (DPCH) seeks the protection of cultural heritage, particularly chattel archaeological heritage, handling the museum's collections (except the ones from Natural History) and the preventive and corrective preservation of effects (restoration).

Among its main functions are:

  • To assist on public denounces due to trading, transportation or export of chattel archaeological property
  • To assist on the confiscation of archaeological property in accordance with police, judicial, and customs authorities
  • To assess (confirm authenticity of objects and their valuation) upon request of judicial authorities or governmental institutions
  • To authorize the export of pre-Columbian reproductions and modern craftsmanship
  • To advise technically and professionally in the field of Archaeological National Heritage in case of repatriations, alternate conflict solution, and specialized criteria
  • To repatriate cultural effects
  • To record private archaeological collections and follow Public Register of National Archaeological Heritage
